PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Aside from their even matte sheen, GOLDEN Matte Fluid Acrylics differ from the GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics in opacity, leveling ability, and thickness, allowing one to apply them more evenly with fewer brushstrokes than GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics.

GOLDEN Matte Fluid Acrylics were first produced as an alternative to the GOLDEN High Load Acrylics. This new formula widened the number of pigments possible in a thin, leveling film. Matte Fluids have a similar look to watercolor gouache, but are insoluble when dry.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

Use As Paint
Matte Fluid Acrylics are excellent paints for thin applications. Loose sketching and under-painting can be achieved without thinning. The matte finish allows viewing without any distracting glare while working on a gessoed canvas or other support.
Matte Fluid Acrylics contain the same lightfast materials found in other GOLDEN paint lines. Their ability to evenly cover a large area makes them ideal for applications similar to gouache, acrylic gouache or tempera painting.

Use As Ground/Gesso
The Matte Fluids are very similar in consistency to GOLDEN Gesso. Additionally, the working properties are comparable, as they impart adequate tooth for other acrylics and oils. The Matte Fluid Acrylics can be blended with the GOLDEN White or Black Gesso in any ratio. With this mixture, a wide variety of colors and values can be created without altering any attributes of the gesso.

Mixing Matte Fluids with other GOLDEN Products
The Matte Fluid colors can be mixed with GOLDEN Mediums, Gels and other paint lines, including Heavy Body Acrylics, Airbrush Colors, High Load Colors, Fluids, and Matte Acrylics. The mixing of different paint lines allows the artist to create any consistency of paint desired, from thick to thin, without loss of color strength.

Thinning
Matte Fluids can be reduced very easily with water, producing much smoother mixtures than can be achieved with thicker paints such as Heavy Body Acrylics.
When thinning with water, remember:

Increasing Film Strength
A matte surface is easier to mar than a glossy counterpart. Adding GOLDEN GAC 100 or 500 will increase the film toughness, sheen and transparency. To avoid increasing the gloss, use GOLDEN Matte Medium or Super Loaded Matte Medium. The risk of marring can also be reduced by applying a varnish over the paints when the artwork is complete.

Spray Application
Like GOLDEN Fluids and High Load Acrylics, Matte Fluid Acrylics can be spray-applied for use in fine art and commercial illustration. Paints should be thinned with GOLDEN Airbrush Medium or GOLDEN Transparent Airbrush Extender for proper spraying qualities. Thinning with water only can lead to very poor adhesion and other undesirable film defects. Start by mixing equal amounts of paint and medium, and adjust as needed. Additional Information
If a desired color is not produced in the Matte Fluid line, a paint with similar properties can be made by blending the Fluid Acrylics (Heavy Body Acrylics or Matte Acrylics are also viable alternatives) and Super-Loaded Matte Medium. A 1:1 mix is a good starting point. Although these mixes will appear similar to the Matte Fluids, they will be lower in pigment content and will not possess the same leveling abilities.
